Introduction Its like straight out of an Arabian Nights fable .The desert citadel is truly a golden fantasy in Thar Desert. Bhatti Rajput ruler Rawal Jaisal, after whom the city finds its name, founded Jaisalmer in 1156.Mughal Emperor Akbar was born in Amarkot, close to Jaisalmer; Jaisalmer today is famous for its carved havelis and Jain Temple. Best Time to Travel September to April Jaisalmer Fort The fort stands almost 100 meters above the city and houses an entire living area within its huge ramparts.It is approached through Ganesh Pol, Hava pol are other main entrances which guard the Negh Durbar and Jawahar Mahal. TaziaTower The delicate pagoda like Tazia Tower rises from Badal Mahal (Cloud Palace). Rising in its five-tiered splendour, with each storey graced by a delicately carved balcony, the tower is of historical significance. Gadsisar Lake A rain water lake built by Maharawal Gadsi in 14th century, which was the main source of water for entire town before introduction of take water, now a tourist spot. Desert National Park The Desert National Park is an excellent example of the ecosystem of the Thar Desert and its rich fauna. The Sudashri forest post is the most ideal place for observing wildlife in the Desert National Park. Salim Singh Ki Haveli This haveli was built about 300 years ago and a part of it is still occupied. Salim Singh was the prime minister when Jaisalmer was the capital of the princely state and his mansion has a beautifully arched roof with superb carved brackets in the form of Peacocks Akal Wood Fossil Park Just 17th Kms from Jaisalmer in way to Barmer fossilized wood of 180 millions years old forest. Road Deluxe & Ordinary buses of Rajasthan Roadways & Private companies operate form Jaisalmer to Jodhpur, Jaipur, Bikaner and other cities of Rajasthan. Private taxis are also operated from Major Cities to Jaisalmer. Rail Jaisalmer is connected by train from Delhi, Jaipur and Jodhpur.
